ColteraTREC Participates in the EIC Clean & Efficient Cooling Annual Portfolio Meeting

EIC Clean & Efficient Cooling Meeting

We are pleased to share that ColteraTREC took part in the EIC Clean and Efficient Cooling Annual Portfolio Meeting on 19 November at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Our Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Krassen Dimitrov, presented the technology and business and use case in front of other founders and engineers.

The meeting stands as a key gathering of innovative projects funded by the European Innovation Council (EIC). This event brought together leading researchers, innovators, and technology developers working to advance breakthrough solutions for the future of clean and efficient cooling.

The meeting aimed to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and build strong synergies across the EIC community. Guided by the EIC, the event offered a dynamic platform to:

  • Exchange insights on cutting-edge research methodologies and project results
  • Identify opportunities for joint activities, shared resources, and cross-project innovation
  • Discuss strategies for market deployment, communication, and exploitation of project outcomes
  • Strengthen ties across Europe’s growing innovation ecosystem

Our project, ColteraTREC, was proud to present our vision, share progress, and engage in meaningful discussions with fellow EIC projects. The exchange of ideas and best practices was inspiring and reinforced our commitment to pushing forward innovative thermal energy recovery solutions.

We would like to thank EIC – European Innovation Council for the excellent organization and hospitality, and to all participating teams for their valuable contributions and collaborative spirit.

We look forward to building on the connections and opportunities initiated during the meeting.

Stay tuned for more updates from the ColteraTREC project!

ColteraTREC Kick-off Meeting in Sofia

ColteraTREC Kick-off Meeting

The ColteraTREC project officially launched with its Kick-off Meeting (KOM) held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 17–18 October 2025, hosted by Voltera-BG, Ltd. The meeting brought together all consortium partners to establish a shared understanding of the project’s structure, goals, and planned activities.

Over the course of two days, partners engaged in in-depth discussions about the research methodology, system development, modeling approaches, sustainability assessments, and strategies for project dissemination. These conversations were crucial for aligning expectations, clarifying timelines, and identifying the interconnections between the various work packages that will drive the project forward.

The KOM also provided a valuable opportunity to outline the technical vision of ColteraTREC. The project aims to design, simulate, and model a hybrid energy system that combines an energy-harvesting module—capable of generating electricity from waste heat—with a heat pump module for active cooling of ambient air. The meeting served as a catalyst for the initial steps toward achieving these objectives, fostering collaboration and innovation among the partners.

We were pleased to welcome representatives from the European Innovation Council (EIC), who provided guidance on project obligations and highlighted potential synergies within the broader European innovation landscape. Their insights offered valuable perspective on how ColteraTREC can maximize impact and align with ongoing portfolio activities.

A special thank-you goes to Voltera Bulgaria. for their excellent organization and warm hospitality. We are also grateful to all project partners for their active participation and collaborative spirit, including Leibniz Universität Hannover, Technische Universität Clausthal, Dias Media Group, and University of West Attica.

With the project now officially underway, the consortium is ready to take the first steps toward advancing sustainable energy solutions and exploring innovative technologies that harness waste heat while providing efficient cooling. The ColteraTREC project promises to be an exciting journey of collaboration, research, and impact.

Partnership Opportunities

As the ColteraTREC project enters its primary R&D phase, we are open to discussions with industrial stakeholders interested in waste-heat recovery applications.

VolteraH2

Advanced Water Electrolysis Technology

VolteraH2’s proprietary sealed electrolysis technology delivers numerous advantages over existing state-of-the-art solutions.

We’ve engineered a proprietary sealed electrolysis (SE) cell, an environment where the electrolysis process occurs.

Our sealed cell offers superior energy efficiency, safety and cost-effectiveness, ensuring optimal operational parameters are maintained, especially with intermittent sources of electricity.

VolteraH2 Technology Detail

Key Advantages

Our SE cell technology provides a competitive edge through clever engineering and process optimization.

Energy Efficiency

By improving the electrical efficiency of the process and simplifying the balance-of-plant systems, the Sealed Electrolyzer substantially lowers the overall cost of hydrogen production.

No Water Purification Requirement

In SE electrolyte and electrodes are sealed and separated from the water feedstock and the electrolysis reaction is supplied by water vapor crossing interfaces. This allows SE to work with low quality water feedstock, even seawater, which has been considered a “holy grail” in the field.

Avoids Expensive and Rare Metals

Unlike traditional systems, SE doesn’t rely on Platinum Group Metals (PGMs), or other rare materials. Our sealed design protects metal components from corrosive KOH, permitting construction from affordable stainless steel.

Pressurized Hydrogen Production

Our electrolysis system operates under pressure, generating hydrogen that is already compressed. This reduces the need for hydrogen compression, saving energy and further reducing costs.
